Alexis IV Angel

Alexis IV Angel , born towards 1182, died in 1204 with Constantinople, Byzantine emperor (1203 - 1204), wire of Isaac II.

It is locked up by his uncle Alexis III, which détrôné his/her father.

It succeeds in escaping and concludes an alliance with the chiefs from the Fourth crusade, to restore his father on the throne. In exchange of the assistance of the Crusaders, he promises to restore the religious union with Rome and of assistance Latin in their fight against the Turks.

After the seat of Constantinople in 1203, Isaac II is restored on its throne.

Alexis IV is crowned Empereur on August 1st 1203 at the side of his father Isaac II. In front of the state of the Treasury, it had to raise new taxes and to dissolve the objects of worship. The Byzantines were scandalized and some of them benefitted from it to light a fire in the district buckwheat of Constantinople: the fire was propagated and devastated the near total of the city.

It is replaced by Nicolas Kanabos and is strangled eleven days later.
