At the 14th century, in Belgium, an association of laic piles was given the responsability to bury the poor people and the pestiferous ones, looked after the patients, especially the poor ones. These Laic was called Frères, carrying out an austere life, but did not pronounce a wish.

In 1459, they were organized in a Congregation, pronouncing solemn wishes and carrying out a Community life, as single people, following the rule of Saint Augustin. These Brothers continued to proceed to the burials, to look after the patients, and dealt with the mentally ills.

They were also called Frères Cellite S, of the name of the locality (Those) where their Congregation was founded. They were spread in Flanders and in the North of the Germany. Their action was appreciated. They profited from a broad support, as well of the private individuals as of the public authorities.

They still existed in the years 1960. It seems that the congregation is extinct.
