Alexeï Ivanovich Gorchakov

The Prince Alexeï Ivanovich Gorchakov (1769 - 1817) was the first of the family of the Gorchakov to illustrate during the reign of Catherine II. It was distinguished under the orders from his uncle Souvorov at the time of the Russo-Turkish Guerre of 1768-1774, and took part as a general officer in the Guerres of the French revolution in 1799, and in the war against Napoleon in Poland in 1806-1807 (Bataille of Heilsberg). It succeeded Barclay de Tolly at the station of Ministre for the War in 1813.

His/her brother Andrei Ivanovich Gorbatchov (1776 - 1855) was a general in the Russian army. He played a big role in the final countryside against Napoleon. Their cousin the Princess Pelageya Nikolayevna (1762 - 1838) was quoted by her grandson, Leon Tolstoï, in Guerre and Paix .
