Alexandre of Lyon

Saint Alexandre of Lyon was martyrisé into 177, with the group of the martyrs of Lyon. He is recognized Saint by the Catholic church and the orthodoxe Church.
Originating in Phrygie in minor Asia (current Turkey), Alexandre was doctor in Lyon at the time where persecutions against the Christian burst, in year 177.
This history is well-known for us by the letter that Polycarpe wrote shortly after to report martyrdom, and that Eusèbe recopied.
According to this letter, Alexandre was not group of the first stopped Christians; but it “ was held upright close to the court ” and encouraged the Christians by signs.
It is then located by the assembly, which expresses against him, and allots the reversal of several apostates to him.
Condemned in its turn, he is torture victim with Attale. Saint Épipode was decapitated and holy crucifié Alexandre.
He is celebrated on April 22nd.
