Alexandre of Hesse-Darmstadt , born in 1823, died in 1898. First prince de Battenberg and founder of the House of Battenberg. Third wire of Louis II of Hesse and Wilhelmine de Hesse-Darmsdat. He married morganatiquement Julia von Hauke (1825 - 1895).

Julia von Hauke was titrated Battenberg princess, exchanges her husband of them prince Alexandre de Hesse renonça with the title and the succession of the duchy of Hesse. The descent of Alexandre de Hesse adopted the title and the name of Battenberg.

Marie of Hesse-Darmstadt (Maria Alexandrovna) was the sister of Alexandre de Hesse.

From this union was born:

  • Alexandre de Battenberg, king de Bulgarie (1857 - 1893) married in 1889 Jeanne Loisinger (1865 - 1951).

Alexandre of Hesse-Darmstadt is the quadrisaïeul current “duke of Anjou”, claiming legitimist with the throne of France, Louis de Bourbon (1974-).
