Alexandre Vincent Jandel

Alexandre Vincent Jandel , born the July 10th 1810 with Gerbéviller (Meurthe-et-Moselle), dead the December 11th 1872 with Rome, was a catholic monk French, Maître general of the Ordre of the Preachers (Dominican) of 1855 with 1872.

Biography

Ordered priest of the diocese of Nancy the September 20th 1834, Alexandre Jandel decides in 1839 to enter the Ordre of the Preachers, that Lacordaire then projects to restore in France. It takes the dress the May 15th 1841, and receives the name of Vincent then. It carries out then, at the sides of Lacordaire, the restoration of the Order in France. Allured by this company, the pope Pie IX chooses it in 1850 to become general vicar of the Order, then Maître general as from 1855.
