Alexandre Moritzi

Alexandre Moritzi is a Naturaliste Suisse, born in 1806 with Coire and died in 1850.

This professor in particular makes appear Die Pflanzen Graubündens: ein Verzeichniss DER bisher in Graubünden gefundenen Pflanzen (Neuchâtel, 1839), Die Flora der Schweiz (Zurich and Winterthour, 1844), Systematisches Verzeichniss DER von H. Zollinger in den Jahren 1842-1844, auf Java gesammelten Pfanzen, nebst einer kurzen Beschreibung DER neuen Gattungen und Arten (Soleure, 1845 - 1846). But one retains especially to him his Réflexions on the species in natural history (1842) which will be republished in 1934 accompanied by a biography. This book, which contains many observations on the animals and the plants, is regarded as a precursor of the theory of the evolution developed by Charles Darwin (1809-1882).
