Alexandre IV of Macedonia
Alexandre IV of Macedonia , or Alexandre Aigos , is the posthumous son of Alexandre Large the and Roxane, born in 323 and died in 310.
He is proclaimed king almost in utero since the compromise of Babylon, the successional shared responsabilities on which end up agreeing the generals of Alexandre and the phalange, immediately after the death of Alexandre, in June 323, expects that he must jointly become king with his uncle, Philippe III Arrhidée. During the thirteen years which follow, the child-king is ballotté between different Diadoques, which disputes its guard like a pledge on the royalty Macedonian bringing a legitimacy to their political ambitions.
He is under the guard of Olympias in 317, the queen-mother jealous of the interests of the young prince who on his behalf makes assassinate his son-in-law Philippe III and his wife intrigante Eurydice.
He dies assassinated in 310 on order of Cassandre: the peace of 311 between the Diadoque S provided indeed that Cassandre would not remain épimélète of the king - the only survivor after the assassination of Arrhidée - who until his majority. This clause sealed the death of the young king, Cassandre having interest to make it disappear as soon as possible: it does not wait thus that one year to pass to the act.
It is possible that fall to it known as “from the Prince”, with Vergina was his: the bones which were found there would correspond to those of a young boy of 13-14 years, the age of Alexandre IV with his death, and the dating of the monument would agree with the date of its death. The tomb is decorated of a fresco representing a race of tanks, of which one of the protagonists could be the young prince.
Philippe III Arrhidée had dedicated in their common noun a small monument hexastyle close to the entry of the Sanctuaire of the Large Gods of Samothrace.
