Ivtchenko had begun its training in a metallurgical foundry in 1920. Later, it followed a formation within the institute of mechanics of Kharkov, which it finished by a diploma of engineering in internal combustion engine in 1935.

He became engineer for the testing grounds of engines aeronautics in the factory n° 29 of Zaporijjia. Little time afterwards, it was transferred to the research department for piston engines of which it took the direction of the studies.

In 1939 was taken the decision to develop the engine of the M-89 type which was to provide a power of 1500 ch. L' factory was then transferred in Siberia (see Second world war). Ivtchenko concentrated with the industrialization of the engine of the type ASH-82FN designed to equip the Lavotchkine La-5.

In 1945, he became chief engineer of the research department (OKB) n° 478, then director-general of the studies in 1963. Of 1945 with 1968, this office built engines implemented in all the Soviet aircraft industry but also in the navy.

They were in particular piston engines (such as the AI-26, AI-10, AI-12, AI-14D), but also gas turbines for planes (TS-12F, AI-2MK, AI-8, AI-20K, AI-20D, AI-24) and helicopters (AI-4B, AI-26B, AI-14B, AI-7, AI-8, AI-24B, TB-2BK). The office also produced small engines for saws (slicers) and motoneige.
