Alexandre Dumas

Alexandre Dumas is a writer French born the July 24th 1802 with Villers-Cotterêts (Aisne) and dead the December 5th 1870 with Puys, locality close to Dieppe (Seine-Maritime). Its ashes were transferred to the the Pantheon, the November 30th 2002.

Biography

Alexandre Dumas was the son of Thomas Alexandre Davy of Pailleterie says the general Dumas , general of the French revolution, Métis of origin Haiti enne by his grandmother, who died when his/her son had three years and half. The young Alexandre was raised by his mother alone and accepted a rather poor education. His/her mother spoke about her husband like hero, which thereafter made dream Alexandre Dumas. After neglected studies, he worked as clerk in a notary and began the drafting from plays with his friend, the Viscount Adolphe Ribbing de Leuven. These first tests were as many failures.

In 1823, it settled in Paris where it entered to the service of the Duc of Orleans like expeditionary thanks to its Calligraphie. It read then Shakespeare, Walter Scott, Goethe and Schiller which was the principal sources of inspiration of its theater. It continued to write for the theater and was finally success thanks to the representation in 1829 of Henri III and its court by the Comédie-Française. This success continued during all its literary career in its kinds of predilection: the drama, the Historical novel and the serial.

It is a prolific author (with the assistance notorious of negro and in particular of Auguste Maquet which took part in the majority of its achievements), signing philosopher's stones such the Three Musketeers or the Count of Assembles-Cristo in 1844. The same year, Dumas buys a ground with the Port-Marly and makes build the " Château of Assembles-Cristo " , a composite castle of style, at the same time Rebirth, Gothic Baroque and .

In 1846, it makes build its own theater that it baptizes the " Theater-Historique". The theater will be inaugurated in 1847 and will accommodate the parts of several European authors: Shakespeare, Goethe, Calderon, Schiller…

Unfortunately, the theater will go bankrupt in 1850. Ruined, Dumas will be obliged to sell with the biddings the Castle Assembles-Cristo that Honore de Balzac admired so much.

In 1851, continued by more than 150 creditors, Dumas must be exiled in Belgium.

In September 1870, after an vascular accident which leaves it with paralyzed half, Dumas settles in the villa of her son with Puys, close to Dieppe. It dies there on December 5th, 1870.

His/her son, also named Alexandre Dumas, was him also writer, author in particular of the Lady with the camellias .
