Alexandre Camille Taponier

The general French Alexandre Camille Taponier was born the February 2nd 1749 with Valence (Drome) and died the April 14th 1831 with Paris.

In 1789, Taponier, then sergeant in a regiment of pomegranates, is among the crowd massed in front of the Bastille and takes the head of the attack of the prison. Following this brilliant deed, it is made to lieutenant then captain in the weeks which suivent.
The November 7th 1793, it is named major general (chief of the 8th division under the command of Gouvion-Saint-Cyr).

It is titular Légion of honor and its name is engraved on the panel of the northern pillar of the Triumphal arch of Paris.
