Alexander von Bach
The baron Alexander von Bach (in German Alexander Freiherr von Bach ), born on January 4th, 1813 with Loosdorf and dead on November 12th, 1893 with Schöngrabern is a Austrian Political personality , mainly known to have set up a control system centralized at the beginning of the reign of the emperor François-Joseph.
Career
Named Minister for the Justice of 1848 with 1849 then Minister of Interior Department of 1849 with 1859, it is then called Minister for the barricades in reference to its political convictions Libérales.At died of the prince Felix von Schwarzenberg in 1852, it sets up a police control system in the whole of the Empire of Austria, namely at the same time in Austria and Hungary. It also founds a Censure press. Outstanding figure of the enlightened Despotisme (in German Klerikalabsolutist ) its authoritarian regime finds its apogee with the legal settlement of August 1855 which entrusts to the Roman Catholic church the control of education and the family life.
On another side, it supports the economy which grows in the Années 1850, mainly thanks to the abolition of several customs duties.
Named baron ( Freiherr ) in 1853, he is also the guard of the Akademie der Wissenschaften (Academy of Science between 1849 and 1859. During its administration, many political opponents are imprisoned or expatriates, such as the Czech nationalist Karel Havlíček Borovský, expatriate of force to Brixen of 1851 with 1855. Its authority and its system rest on four armed : “an army of drawn up soldiers, an army of civils servant sitting, an army of knelt priests and an army of lick-boots crawling. ”
Its fall in 1859 is mainly caused by the Austrian defeat in Italy against the Royaume of Sardinia and Napoleon III. It is then named ambassador after the Holy See of 1859 with 1867 before dying in 1893.
