Aleksinac , in Serb Cyrillic Sr Алексинац, is a city and a municipality of Serbia located in the district of Nišava. In 2002, the city counted: 17171 inhabitants and the municipality of which it is the center: 57749.
In 1948, the city counted: 5797 inhabitants and, in 1991: 17030.
Conquered by the Roman , the territory was included in the province of Mésie then of Dacie. A military road was built there with the front J.C. Starting from 476, the area passed under the control of the Byzantine Empire.
Under the reigns of the emperors Phocas (602 - 610) and Héraclius (610 - 641), people Slaves settled in the Balkans. In 614, they shaved the town of Niš.
During the the Middle Ages, the old Roman military road was borrowed by the Croisés.
Under the reign of the dynasty of the Nemanjić, the area of Aleksinac was under the direct control of the Serb State. After the death of Uroš V in 1371, under the prince Lazar and his successors, the area belonged to the Moravska Srbija. From this period the two medieval cities go back to Bovan and Lipovac.
Aleksinac is mentioned for the first time in 1516. The city was also the theater of important battles at the time of the first and the Second revolt Serb against the Turks. In the same way still, it was touched by the war between Serbes and Turks in 1876.
Aleksinac was seriously damaged by the bombardments of NATO in 1999.
