Aleksander Kwaśniewski (born the November 15th 1954 has Bialogard in Poland) is a Politician Polish married to Jolanta Kwaśniewska. He was the president of the Poland of 1995 with 2005.
Political biography
Aleksander Kwaśniewski is the son of Zdzisław Kwaśniewski, of its true name, Stoltzman. This last would have been an agent of NKVD, would have taken part in the Massacre of Katyń, and works with the communist intelligence services. These family origins were however never contradicted, nor confirmed by Aleksander Kwaśniewski.
Communist regime with the democracy
Former militant of the young branch of PZPR (SZSP), Minister for the youth of 1985 with 1987 in the government of Zbigniew Messner under the mode of the Popular republic of Poland (PRL), he was also member of the government of Mieczyslaw Rakowski of October 1988 at September 1989.
In 1989, he was an important actor of the Processus of the Roundtable between the opposition and the communist capacity.
Deputy, he was the person in charge of the parliamentary group of the SLD to the Diet (Sejm) of 1991 with 1995.
He was member of PZPR (the Polish Unified Working Party) of 1977 with 1990, then cofounder in 1990 of the left social democrat the Republic of Poland (SDRP) which he directed until December 1995. He is one of the founders of the Alliance of the democratic left SLD.
The president of the Republic
He gained the presidential elections for the first time in 1995 vis-a-vis Lech Wałęsa with 51,7% of the voices.
Mr. Kwasniewski was re-elected for a second and last mandate in 2000 obtaining 53,9% of the votes as of the first turn.
Resolutely Atlantic, the policy of Kwaśniewski was marked by the accession of Poland to NATO in 1999, with the Guerre in Iraq in 2003, with the European Union in 2004, and with the support for the Orange revolution.
After presidency
After the Polish presidential election of 2005, where Lech Kaczyński succeeded to him, it created in 2006 the left coalition, Lewica I Demokraci.
