Aleksandar Deroko
Aleksandar Deroko , in Serb Cyrillic Sr АлександарДероко (born the September 16th 1894 with Belgrade - died the November 30th 1988 with Belgrade), was a Architecte, a painter and a Serb writer . He was professor with the Université of Belgrade and member of the Serb Académie of sciences and arts. As an architect, he is a representative of the style néo-Byzantine in Serbia. One owes him, in particular, the plans of the Temple of Saint-Sava in Belgrade.
Biography
Aleksandar Deroko carried out its studies in Belgrade, initially with the College then with the Faculty of arts and trades of the University of Belgrade. During the First World War, it belonged to the group of the 1.300 corporals and was one of the first pilots of Serb aviation.After the war, it resumed its studies of architecture and art with Rome, Prague, Brno and Belgrade, where it obtained its diploma for the occupation of architect in 1926. After having obtained a purse of the government French, it settled with Paris, where it bound friendship with Pablo Picasso, Sava Šumanović, Le Corbusier, Rastko Petrović, as with other artists who lived at that time in Paris.
In 1926, with Bogdan Nestorović, it conceived a project for the Temple of Saint-Sava, project for which it gained the contest which had been organized; the construction of this building still is not completely completed. During thirty years, Alksadar Deroko taught with the Faculty of architecture and the Faculty of philosophy of the Université of Belgrade. It took its retirement in 1964.
In 1956, Aleksandar Deroko became member of the Serb Académie of sciences and arts.
