Alejandro Jodorowsky , known as “Jodo”, born the February 7th 1929 with Tocopilla (Chile), is a Réalisateur, Acteur, author of a film handle esoteric, surrealist and provocative; he is also author of memorable “performances” Panique (group which he creates with Roland Topor and Fernando Arrabal), MIME, Romancier, essay writer, Poète and prolific Scénariste of Cartoon.

The universes that it develops are in general universes of Science-fiction, even of the worlds Fantastique S. Its stories are characterized by the presence of many metaphors and symbols, with which it often mixes a social description; one thinks for example of the revolts against the dictatorship in Incal , the reconstitution of the colonization of the Mexico by the Conquistador be (clamping plates in the crowned Mountain ) - the film is in addition a true parabola anti-capitalist - or the description of the hollows of a big city and popular religions in Santa sangre .

Jodorowsky is also recognized like a “scout” in his practice of the Tarot divinatoire, which it pickles of his meaning occultist, to exclusively connect it to the psychic and intuitive sphere of the man. It redrew the current edition of the Tarot of Marseilles, at the end of the Années 1990, with the assistance of Philippe Camoin, going down from the large Masters cartiers of Marseilles.

Starting from the Years 1980, it animates in various places of Paris (like a university, a bar or a Dojo ) a weekly open meeting, entitled “the mystical Cabaret”, where it testifies - in the spirit of an agora open to its listeners - topics touching with the interior awakening like the practice to the Zen (which it studied with Ejo Takata), martial arts, the Chilean tradition, the spiritual heritage of humanity, the massage, the “wisdom of the jokes”, the psychoanalysis, Carlos Castaneda,…

This aspect of Jodorowsky and its interest for the individual and collective cure and in particular the Psychogénéalogie, of which it was a large precursor, make a really committed artist of it. This unusual journey is recalled in two autobiographical works the Theater of the cure and the Dance of reality (Albin Michel).

It is also one of the rare artists and theorists to have thought creative dimension beyond its own person to carry it to a dimension which it is necessary well to describe as “spiritual”. According to him there are seven levels, seven steps in artistic creation.

Jodorowsky founds the movement Panique with Roland Topor, Olivier O. Olivier and Fernando Arrabal. Federico Fellini, Moebius, John Lennon, the MIME Marcel Marceau, Peter Gabriel, but also of many anonymities, was touched in their own life by applications of its creativity, which in fact undoubtedly an artist really out-standard, but confers to a dimension with many regards “visionary to him” (cf the film the Constellation Jodorowsky of Louis Mouchet).

For better determining the personality of this astonishing touch-with-all, let us read the foreword of the spiders without memory , its first work. Gerard de Cortanze written:

This book of voyages, on which a certain euphoric terror planes, because it can deploy its energy apart from any school and of any vault, because it chooses, to arrive at the “marvellous world of the Geometry”, the labyrinth rather than the straight line, can break the leaded inkpot of our imagination . Open letter with the disguise, it ransacks with madness the combinations of wisdom.

Alejandro Jodorowsky is one of the strangest characters and more attaching our time.

Cinema

The cinematographic career of Jodorowsky starts in 1957, with " The Heads interverties" , a short film adapting a news but which completely disappeared. Thereafter, it carries out " Fando and Lis" in 1967, adapting this time a play of Fernando Arrabal, another member of the movement Panics. Thereafter, it will develop a more personal work of which dimension " mystique" he brought a certain fame. Thus, " El Topo" in 1970, qualified metaphysical western, then the crowned Mountain in 1973 - very freely inspired by the Similar Mount of Rene Daumal -, are regarded as " films-cultes". After " Tusk" (1973) and the failure of the adaptation of " Dune" , Jodorowsky moves away from the cinema to let be expressed its creativity in the cartoon. " Santa Sangre" (1989) and " The Robber and the Arc in ciel" (1992, with Peter O' Toole and Omar Charif) allowed him to join again with the cinema and a new recognition.

In 1975, Jodorowsky starts to work on an adaptation of the novel Dune of Frank Herbert. The project was to see the participation of Orson Welles, with decorations of Salvador Dali, Moebius and H.R. Giger, and musics of Pink Floyd (which worked with pieces), Tangerine Dream, Magma. But the project turns short, the producers release Jodorowsky. A few years later, David Lynch will turn his clean Dune but without bond with the preliminary works of the project of Jodorowsky.

At the beginning of the Years 2000, Jodorowsky, which did not turn since nearly ten years, tries to give one following El Topo : Wire of El Topo (The Sounds off El Topo) . Following legal problems with the producer Allen Klein, the project is famous AbelCain . The realizer affirmed several times his intention to carry out the project in the long term, but one is unaware of if it will be effective. During the same time, Jodorowsky began another project, heading Triptyque (Tryptych) , still abortive also.

Cartoon

Since the Years 1980, Jodorowsky works especially as scenario writer of Cartoon; it is the author in particular of the series Incal , the first albums written with its accomplice Moebius with whom it worked on the fallen through outline of Dune. Working with the draftsman Juan Gimenez, it produces the the Caste of the Méta-Barons , vast saga being held in the same world as Incal . It gives to it free course to its theories on the importance of the line, the role of paternity and the union between two beings liking. Another series, Technopères , in collaboration with the draftsman Zoran Janjetov, takes again and develops its personal myths. It scénarise also the series Juan Solo , a kind of thriller in a city corrupted of South America, where an young man starts a kind of course initiatory through violence and immorality. He also collaborated with François Boucq in series: Face of the Moon and Bouncer .
