Introduction

The basset hound of the Alps is a race of Gun dog. The international cynologic Fédération allots its standard to the Austria and thus recognizes it under the name of alpenländische Dachsbracke . One also knows it under the names of directs basset hound of the Alps and directs basset hound of the Metalliferous Mounts

History

The basset hound of the Alps would be originating in Germany, more precisely in the Metalliferous Monts between the Bohemia and the Saxony. The race was spread very quickly and was initially known under the name of directs of Mauersberg.

Austrian ridge cynologic association recognized it in 1932. International the cynology federation validates its standard in 1975.

Character

It is a dog adapted to hunting for hare, the fox, wild boar, the stag, or to bring back game birds. Also adapted for hunting to blood (to follow the track of a wounded game). Hunting in pack is not appropriate to him. It is equipped with a fine nose, and appears enduring and tough. Affectionate, it is however adapted little to the town life, with less to accustom it to it very young person.
