Aldo Finzi (Milan, February 4th, 1897 - February 7th, 1945) was a Italian Compositeur of Classical music .

Biography

Aldo Finzi is born from an old Jewish family originating in Mantoue (Mantova) at which the love of the music is a tradition (aunt d' Aldo Finzi, sister of the father, was a famous soprano: Giuseppina Finzi Magrini).

After the traditional studies with the college Parini of Milan, it obtained its control in right to the Université of Pavia; at the same time, it received its diploma for the occupation of type-setter, as a free candidate, with the national Académie of Holy-Cecile ( Accademia Nazionale di Santa Cecilia ) of Rome.

It had success very quickly and became famous among the young Italian musicians: lyric works, chamber music, symphonic music, a comic work " serenata Al vento " , a dramatic work inspired by persecution anti-semite " Shylok ", unfinished, appear in the number of its compositions. At age the 24 years, it had become one of the authors whose Ricordi published works, after having had before Fantuzzi and Sonzogno as editors.

In the catalog Ricordi of 1931, among its works are quoted: " It chiostro " ( the cloister ) for feminine voices and orchestra, symphonic poems " Cirano di Bergerac " ( Cyrano of Bergerac ), announced in a contest whose jury included/understood Arturo Toscanini and Ildebrando Pizzetti, and " Inni went notte " ( Anthems at the night ), a " Sonata per violino " ( Sonata for violin ), a " Quartetto per archi " ( Quartetto for string instruments ), several lyric works ( Boat of gold , Serenata-Serenade ), and a merry comedy in three acts, " serenata Al vento " ( the serenade with the wind ) precisely.

Among the most important works of the following years, we can quote " the infinito " ( infinite the ), a symphonic poem of 1933, " Interludio " ( Interlude ), concert for piano and orchestra of 1934, " Numquam " ( Never ), symphonic poem for piano of 1937.

In 1937, the Scala ( Teatro went Scala ) opens a contest for a new work having to be carried out the following season: Finzi took part in it with " serenata Al vento " ; One of the members of the jury, Riccardo Pick Mangiagalli, confidentially, approached the young colleague to reveal to him in advance the gained victory. But the official announcement, awaited for spring 1938, never arrived.

The disillusion of Aldo Finzi was deep: it started to affirm that the decision of the jury, with him favorable, could have been blocked only by one veto of the government, which meant the imminence of racial campaign in Italy too.

He was unfortunately prophet: the racial laws arrived a few months later: he was despoiled of his right to make carry out his musics; but the artistic vein is not dried up. In 1939, he writes a symphonic poem, which a sister of Finzi, which survived to him, gave a title drawn from worms of Dante: " Like all' lastly suo ciascun artista " ( As for any artist in its last ); in 1940, it composed " Danza " ( Dance ), concert for two pianos, saxophones and orchestra; in 1942, " Shylok ", dramatic opera on booklet of Rossato (the author wanted to center the action on the complaint made by Shylok against persecutions whose its people are victim). Only the first act was put in music: Finzi wrote then itself the rhythmic text of the two other acts, which it did not have time to put in music.

To live, it was constrained to work in anonymity or under the name of other people: rhythmic translation of the " Beatitudini " ( Blisses ) of César Franck in Italian, which circulates under another name, is of him. In 1944, he wrote " Preludio E fuga per organo " ( Prelude and running away for organ ), composed during the occupation Nazi of Turin, where the author had taken refuge. Following a denunciation, the Italian S went in the dwelling where the son was hidden to seek Maestro Aldo Finzi, hidden elsewhere; to avoid the searching of the dwelling and the capture of the son, the Master delivered himself spontaneously to the S. The Italian S were corruptible and, bought, they slackened Aldo Finzi.

Between 1944 and 1945, it composed the " Salmo per coro E orchestrated " ( Psalm for chorus and orchestra ), to thank the Lord for the hello obtained for his son and itself, and to express the certainty of divine protection; all the psalm glorifie the kindness of the Lord.
