Aldeyjarfoss

Aldeyjarfoss is a fall in Iceland.

It is close to the northern part of the road of Sprengisandur on the Highlands of Iceland.

The cascade is very interesting because of contrast between the columns of black Basalte (called also basaltic organ) and white water of the fall. She points out a little another Icelandic cascade, the Svartifoss in the National park of Skaftafell which is smaller.

Water of the river Skjálfandafljót falls there by approximately 20 m in a narrow throat. Basalt belongs to a field of Lave of the name Frambruni , which one calls also Suðurárhraun , isl. hraun always referring to a field of lava.
