Alcohols

Alcools is a collection of poems written by Guillaume Apollinaire and published in 1913. This collection is the fifteen year old fruit of poetry of Apollinaire, and announces the search of modernity, play with the tradition of formal renewal of the poetry of the poet. Alcohols is a collection plural, polyphonic, which explore many aspects of the poetry, energy of the free elegy to the verse, mixing the daily newspaper with the Rhénans landscapes in a poetry which wants to be experimental, energy of quasi a formal perfection and a great beauty (“May”) to a hermetism, an art of the shock, electric shock, which was worth in Apollinaire to be qualified of mystifier. Finally, Alcools introduces the poet torn sentimentally by the rupture in love that the literary history retained, through poems such as “May”, “Colchiques”, and especially “the Song of the Evil Aime”.

It was recognized that Guillaume Apollinaire, after having witnessed a reading by Blaise Cendrars itself of his future publication: the Prose of Trans-Siberian and small Jehanne de France , decided to metamorphose its future collection: Alcohols . It positioned thus “Zone” in opening of the collection, which made proclamation of it, and removed any trace of punctuation, plagiarizing the innovation of Cendrars literally. One thus allotted by error to Apollinaire the primacy of the suppression of the punctuation, to symbolize the way of life precipitated and inarrêtable of the modern world. Apollinaire, profiting from networks of publication more developed than his Cendrars contemporary, managed to publish Alcools not very front the Prose of Trans-Siberian the .

Alcools is readable and downloadable here.

The collection was with the base to be entitled Eau (X) of life to be opposed to romantic pessimism and to be an anthem with the life.
