Alciphron (in Greek old Ἀλκίφρων / Alkíphrôn ) is a rhetor and épistolographe (author of fictitious correspondences) Greek of the 2nd century or beginning of the 3rd century, having lived between Lucien de Samosate, which it copies, and Élien, which copies it.

He is the author of a collection of 124 fictitious letters, supposedly written at fourth century BC the work is composed of four books:

  • delivers I: letters of fishermen;
  • delivers II: country letters of ;
  • delivers III: letters of parasites;
  • delivers IV: letters of prostitutes.

Alciphron made express real characters, like the comic poet Ménandre, or the Hétaïre Phryné, as well as characters of the New Comedy. Others still are invented of all parts. Each character speaks about his daily life, in a very traditional Ionian-attic.
