Albuquerque (in English, name navajo: Bee' eldííldahsinil ) is a city located in the part of the State of the New Mexico, with the the United States, approximately 523 km in the south-west of Denver, Colorado. It is the seat and the principal city of the Comté of Bernalillo.
According to the estimates of 2005, the city counts: 494236 inhabitants, which makes the most populated city by far of it State. The agglomeration counts as for it: 712738 inhabitants.
One finds in Albuquerque the Université of New Mexico, Kirtland air base and the laboratories Sandia National Laboratories.
History
The Amerindian S Pueblos, descendants of the Anasazi S, were the first occupants of the area. They left there many Pétroglyphe S.The Spanish old city of Albuquerque was founded in 1706 like posts colonial Spanish. Albuquerque was then a farm community and formed a complex strategic Militaire along the Camino Real. The town of Albuquerque was built according to the traditional plan of the Spanish villages: a central place ( plaza ) surrounded by administrative buildings, houses and of a church. This plaza central was preserved and is today the shopping mall, history and cultural of the city, called Old Town Albuquerque , or simply Old Town .
The village of origin was named by the governor Cuerdo there Valdez in homage to the Duke of Alburquerque, viceroy of News-Spain of 1702 to 1710. The first “R” in Alburquerque disappeared at the 19th century, apparently by the fault of a station master Anglo-American unable to pronounce the name (due to the tendency of the english-speaking to remove all “R” in a phonetic syllable if not very natural in English). In the Years 1990, the trolley buses of Exchange Avenue were decorated with the querque name Albu' r' , in the honor of the historical name of the city. During the American Civil War, Albuquerque was occupied by the confederated troops in February 1862 under the aegis of the general Hopkins Sibley, who advanced his troops towards the north of New Mexico. At the time of its retirement towards the Texas vis-a-vis the troops of the Union, it retained a quota of soldiers of the Union ordered by Colonel Edward R.S. Canby in Albuquerque the April 8th 1862, in one day a long battle.
It will be also the city which saw being born the first software published by Microsoft Corporation (called Microphone-Software then), founded for the occasion the April 4th 1975, in a motel.
Today, the city attracts many Americans of the other areas of the United States. Its university, the principal campus of the university of New Mexico, became very famous.
Geography
According to the Office of the census of the United States, the city has an total surface area of 469,5 km ², including 1,7 km ² of water levels, that is to say 0,35% of the total. Albuquerque is located at 35°6 ′ 39 ″ NR, 106°36 ′ 36 ″ O. Its urban surface is expanding fast.
The Sandia Mountains, whose Sandia Peak, is located at the east of the city. Sandia Peak Tramway joined the base of the mountain at its top, and is longest Téléphérique world of its kind. The Río Grande crosses the city of north to the south. This one is divided into four quadrants which determine the postal addresses and are named according to their geographical orientation ((nort-is not), NW (nort-west), SE (south-eastern), and SW (south-western).
On the level of the climate, the city is generally sunny (300 days/years) and receives from 250 to 300 mm of annual precipitations.
Culture
Each year in October since 1972, Albuquerque receives one of the largest gatherings of mongolfières in the world, Albuquerque Balloon Fiesta.In the Looney Tunes, when Bugs Bunny is lost it says:
