Albert de Trapani

Saint Albert de Trapani (also called Albert of Messine or Albert of Sicily) is a monk Carmelite friar, born with Trapani.

Life

Entered very young person with the local monastery of the Carmelite nuns it rejoingit then that of Metz-native.

All its life he was a beggar preacher near the sicilians. It was also provincial of its kind.

In 1301, the town of Messine was besieged by the duke Robert of Calabria and missed vivres. Albert celebrated the Mass, at the request of the inhabitants. When the office finished, three ships arrived with grain. The city was saved famine, and Robert raised the seat. This miracle was allotted to Albert who was venerated a long time after his death.

Canonization

  • Its worship was confirmed in 1454 and he was canonized on May 31st 1476 by the Pope Sixte IV
  • And his festival fixed at the August 7th .

Veneration

  • the church Carmelite nun of Dublin contains some relics of the saint. August 7th, day of its festival, a piece of the relic is plunged in the water of the well which bears its name, and those which will use then water will be preserved of any mental evil as well as physical.
  • the cranium of Albert de Trapani is enchased in a statue of money carried out at the 18th century by Vincenzo Bonaiuto for the furnace bridge of the vault of the saint in the basilica of Trapani.

Representation

Albert de Trapani is often represented with a lily, a book, or in company of Saint Angel, as on the work of Filippo Lippi. He is the owner of the town of Trapani.
