Albert Uderzo

Albert Uderzo (born with Fismes the April 25th 1927) is a draftsman and scenario writer of French Cartoon .

Biography

Albert Uderzo, wire of a family of Italian immigrants discovers the cartoon with Mickey Mouse , at the time published in Small Parisian the . During the war, he is engaged by the Parisian Société of edition, and learns the bases from the trade: lettering, the calibration of a text, the final improvement of image… Within the framework of its work it meets Calvo, which pushes it to persist in the drawing. Its first publication is done in 1944 in Junior : a parody of the fable of Jean of the Fountain “the Corbel and the fox”. Until the end of the Forties, Uderzo works enormously: it illustrates novels, creates Belloy , the Prince Rollin and Arys Buck for O.K. , takes part in Captain Marvel Jr. in Cheer! , is to defer for France Dimanche and collaborates daily in France Soir with the band Crime doesn't pay .

In 1950, invited with Brussels, it becomes acquainted with Victor Hubinon, Eddy Paape and Mitacq as well as scenario writer Jean-Michel Charlier, with whom it carries out new adventures of Belloy . It is at that time that it meets the scenario writer with whom it works more during his career: Rene Goscinny. Their first collaboration is a heading of good manners, published in the female weekly magazine Bonnes Evenings . They create for Junior Jehan Pistolet and Luc Junior .

In 1955, with Charlier, Goscinny and Jean Hébrard, Uderzo founds a trade union, divided into two distinct agencies: Edifrance and Edipresse. It continues to produce boards in abundance: Benjamin and Benjamine and Bill Blanchard (with Goscinny), for the Free Junior , Pale (with Charlier), Oumpah-Pah , Chick and Poussif , the Family Moutonnet and the Family Cokalane (all with Goscinny) in Tintin .

In 1959, Uderzo takes part in the launching of Pilote by illustrating two of its series-titles: Tanguy and Laverdure , realistic series of aviation scenarized by Charlier and Astérix the Gallic , humorous series scenarized by Goscinny which, as of this date, obtains a very great success. Vis-a-vis this one, Uderzo gradually gives up during the Sixties all its other series. With Goscinny, while carrying out approximately a history per annum, it supervises the development of the derivative products attentively (latex figurines with the spin-offs Idéfix ). In 1974, the two authors create the Studios Idéfix, in order to control the adaptation in cartoon of the adventures of the Gallic one.

The death of Goscinny, in 1977, deeply upsets Uderzo, which however decides to continue Astérix . Its first album carried out in solo, the large ditch , appears in 1980 at Albert Rene, publisher which it creates following a dispute with Dargaud. Since this album, the draftsman runs up against criticisms of the amateurs of the first hour and the specialized press, which consider that without Goscinny, Astérix is not any more that one mechanics without charm. Public, him, continuous to vote by plebiscite the series, whose last published albums are the high circulation figures of the history of the European cartoon. He currently lives with Paris.

A talented draftsman

Able to draw in very different styles (realism of Tanguy and Laverdure to the caricature of Astérix), its great direction of the visual gag supplemented perfectly the talents of humorist of Rene Goscinny.

Surprising fact… it suffers from Daltonisme (does not distinguish the red and the green). The setting colors of the albums of Astérix was ensured during several years by his/her brother Marcel Uderzo.
