Albert Roussel is a French type-setter born with Tourcoing on April 5th, 1869 and died in Royan on August 23rd, 1937.

Biography

Member of a family of the industrial middle-class tourquennoise, it makes his secondary studies with the free Institution of the Sacred Heart, then with the Collège Stanislas of Paris.

He made initially career in the navy before devoting entirely to the music starting from 1894: he studied with Eugene Gigout before entering in 1898 to the Schola Cantorum, founded with Paris in 1894 by Charles Bordes, Alexandre Guilmant and Vincent d' Indy. He taught there the counterpoint between 1902 and 1914, cash among his pupils Erik Satie and Edgar Varèse. Very respected musician, influenced by Debussy and of Indy, it composed of the Mélodie S, four Symphonie S, of the Ballet S ( the Feast of the spider , Bacchus and ARIANE , Aeneas ), a Opéra-ballet Padmâvatî and a symphonic triptych with chorus Évocations , works inspired by his honeymoon in the Indies. He died in Royan of the continuations of an mild heart attack.
