Albert Robida

Albert Robida , born with Compiegne the March 14th 1848 and died in Neuilly-sur-Seine the October 11th 1926, is a draftsman, lithographer, aquafortist, caricaturist, journalist and novelist French.

Wire of a carpenter, he studies to become notary, but in the trouble of such studies, he devotes himself to the caricature. In 1866, it draws with the Journal Amusing then in various reviews. In 1880, with the editor George Decaux, it founds her own review, the Caricature , which it will direct during 12 years and in which one will see Caran d' Ache, Louis Morin, Ferdinand Bac, Job, Maurice Radiguet, the father of Raymond Radiguet), to make their beginnings. It illustrates tourist guides, popularizing works historical, traditional arts persons: Villon, Rabelais, Cervantes, Swift, Shakespeare, Hundred tales drolatic of Honore de Balzac, the Thousand and One Nights . It will also make in a lighter register with a history of the closed houses.

Its fame eclipses some time after the First World War.

Albert Robida was redécouvert thanks to his trilogy of anticipation:

These works make of him another Jules Verne, often more daring. Contrary to Jules Verne, he proposes inventions integrated into the everyday life and not of creations of insane scientists, and each time, he imagines social developments which rise from its inventions, often with accuracy: social advancement of the women (whom he sees eligible éléctrices/, carrying the pants, smoking, doctors, notaries or lawyers), tourism of mass, pollution. In 1869, already, Robida makes a work of anticipation with its cartoon the War at the twentieth century, countryside of Jujubie , which describes the modern war, containing robotized missiles and of asphyxiating gases.

He will invent thus the Téléphonoscope, a mural flat panel display which disseminates last information at any hour of the day and the night, the last plays, of the courses and the teleconferences.

Independently of its qualities of visionary, his work the clock of the centuries , with the changes of Paradigm S which it presents, announced already, according to some of its criticisms, the Philip Kindred Dick of the novel At grain-time .
