Albert Marquet (or Pierre-Albert Marquet) is French a painter born with Bordeaux, the March 27th 1875, deceased with Paris the June 14th 1947 and buried with the Hoop-on-Seine

Its work

“Colors deaf, almost quiet, strange and often mysterious atmospheres”. Marquet was never let lock up in any movement.

He was a Master of the landscape to the significant glance. Friend of Matisse and Derain, it preserved, of his fawn-coloured period , the direction of the color and the light. He painted Paris and his surroundings, the bridges of the the Seine, the enlightened streets the night, Paris under the snow or a blazing sun. He belongs to the generation of the post-impressionism which, at the beginning of the 20th century, invents news. Thus it takes part in 1905 in the exposure of the " Fauves" which makes scandal by a brutal vision of the forms and colors. It gives up later this manner for research of a tonal harmony. One of its favorite subjects is the representation of the the Seine and the quays.

The drawings of Albert Marquet, with the Indian ink, such as for example its characters of the Parisian street, as presented to the Malraux museum of Le Havre also deserve the attention.

It is especially famous as landscape designer, and as from 1919 it travels much. In the intervals of its voyages he attends the banks of the Seine for which he showed a kind of predilection. From 1919 to 1939 it will remain, inter alia, with Poissy, Triel and Méricourt and will paint landscapes of the Seine there.

At the beginning of 1939 it is established the the Hoop-on-Seine. It is there that it will paint his wife sewing ( Intérieur with the Hoop ) and his/her friend Desnoyer painting ( the Workshop of the Hoop ).

An extract of the memories of his wife Marcelle Marquet who evokes the moments of happiness peaceful last by the painter in their house of the Hoop ( It east can be in this modest house of the Hoop that Albert felt more at his place. Its workshop well isolated in the attic dominated a loop of the Seine, its river…. Albert felt there at ease and as the shelter. Desnoyer worked in its corner of workshop, it obstructed neither one nor the other ).

Eager to flee the German invasion it takes refuge in Algérie where it will live until the end of the war. In 1945 It regains Paris and the Hoop-on-Seine where its body rests in the communal cemetery.
