Albert Lilar
Albert Jean Julien François Lilar (Antwerp, December 21st 1900 - March 16th 1976) was a Belgian Politician of the Liberal party and Ministre.
Lilar was doctor in right and famous lawyer of Maritime law and private International law in Antwerp, and chair international maritime Committee. He was also law professor with the Universit3e libre de Bruxelles and the Vrije Universiteit Brussel. He was the husband of the writer Suzanne Lilar and father of the writer Francoise Mallet-Joris (born 1930) and of the Historien of Art specialist in the 18th century, Marie Fredericq-Lilar (born 1934). He was a liberal Senator of the Arrondissement of Antwerp (1946-1971), four times Ministre for Justice (1946-1947, 1949-1950, 1954-1958 in 1960-1961) and Minister of state as from 1969. Under the government Gaston Eyskens (1958-1960) Lilar is in charge of the vice-presidency of the Council of Cabinet. As a vice-premier Belgian minister, Albert Lilar was elected president of the Roundtable in 1960 and took part in the discussions leading to Independence of the Belgian Congo. Large Humanistic and defender of the Human rights, no Capital punishment was carried out under its mandate of minister.
The price Albert-Lilar of the international maritime Committee is allotted for a principal work on the maritime law published in any language in the world during the five previous years.
