Albert II , king of the Belgians since 1993, figure on several series of Belgian postage stamps of everyday usage at the sides of the series Birds.

The series of 1963

Before his reign, prince Albert appeared in September 1963 on a series of seven stamps for the centenary of the Croix-Rouge. He is shown there with his wife Paola and his the first two children Philippe and Astrid.

Series of everyday usage

Until now, Albert II appeared under four different effigies. The three first were emitted initially in the shape of a multicoloured stamp, then under that of stamp in range of a color. The four series carry the royal monogram.

1993-1996

The first series is with type “MVTM”, known as “without glasses”. It represents a photograph of Albert II realized by Fernande Kuypers. The page layout of the stamp is of Myriam Voz and Thierry Martin (MVTM) and it is printed in Héliogravure.

The first stamp is emitted the December 15th 1993. Of a value of 16 frank , it is Polychrome.

Six monochromic values are emitted in 1994.

Lastly, two polychrome stamps of 100 and 200 francs are emitted in October 1994 and April 1995 with the characteristic to be larger horizontally than the remainder of the series.

1996-1999

The second series is with type “MVTM”, known as “with glasses”. It uses a photograph of J.P. Van der Eist. The page layout of the stamp is of Myriam Voz and Thierry Martin (MVTM) and it is printed in Héliogravure.

The first stamp, polychrome, is emitted the June 6th 1996 for the 62e birthday of the king.

Eleven monochromic values are emitted of 1996 to 1998. The 19 purple franc is re-emitted in 1998: of a larger size, it was conditioned in rollers from 1.000 to 10.000 stamps.

1999-2002

The third series is with the type “Broux/MVTM” and was first carried a facial value in Belgian franc and Euro. The portrait of the king, carrying glasses, is drawn by Guillaume Broux. Put on page by Myriam Voz and Thierry Martin (MVTM), it is printed in Héliogravure.

The first stamp, polychrome, is emitted on October 1st, 1999 and is the first stamp with facial value expressed in the two currencies to prepare the transition towards the euro.

Eight monochromic values are emitted in 2000 and 2001, like three monochromic values large size. One of them was conditioned in rollers of stamps.

In March 2001, the 100 franc large size standard “MVTM without glasses” is re-used with facial frankly/euro.

2002- (in progress)

The fourth series is said to type “MVTM values in euro”. Taking again the drawing of Guillaume, the duet of graphic designers MVTM creates a pixelized monochromic portrait, printed in Héliogravure.

The first values are emitted in 2002 and 2003. The mentions are modified for certain emissions since 2003 to include the logo “Prior” which must appear the mail in priority service.

2005 - (in progress)

The fifth series (known as “News royal effigy Albert II”) is emitted the national feastday, on July 21st, 2005, with one 0,50 euro in quadrichromy and one 0,70 blue-king. The horizontal stamp, because of band “PRIOR” announcing the priority character, was put on page by Myriam Voz and Thierry Martin (MVTM) and print in photogravure. Albert II is represented in uniform of Général; the image is bordered on the left by the Prior band.

The 1 {{er}} October 2007, a modified version of the fifth series is emitted: without band “PRIOR”, these vertical stamps have for facial value with permanent validity a number. Each inland rate corresponds to a number of multiple points of 0,52 €: the user must as many stick points as necessary to his sending.

Commemorative stamps

Since his advent, Albert II regularly appeared on commemorative stamps Belgian. The principal occasions were:
  • events related to the history of the kingdom: a silver stamp in 2005 for the 175e birthday of the kingdom,
  • events of its life: Celebrates of the king, wedding anniversary,
  • the representations of the royal family: emissions “Promotion of philately” related to the exposure Bruphila '99, the marriage of the prince Philippe and a homage to the king Baudouin.

July 21st, 2005, a self-adhesive Timbre in money is emitted for the 175e birthday of the kingdom and the 25e birthday of the federal institutions; it represents the kings Léopold I {{er}} and Albert II. The pulling of this stamp of a facial value of 4 euros is of 110.000 sold specimens 10 euros in a small pocket containing a block-layer and texts on the history of Belgium.
