Albert Heim
Albert von St Gallen Heim (April 12th 1849 - August 31st 1937) is a geologist Suisse born with Zurich.
He studies with the Université of Zurich and that Berlin. Very early it is interested in the physical characteristics of the the Alps and at age the 16 years it creates a model of the Tödi. This model draws the attention of Arnold Escher von der Linth, to which Heim must much of encouragement and instruction on the ground.
In 1873 he becomes professor of Géologie at the polytechnic school of Zurich. Starting from 1882 it directs the survey geology of Switzerland. It receives an honorary degree of doctor of the Université of Bern in 1884.
One particularly notices it for his research on the structure of the the Alps and for knowledge which it in general brings on the structure of the Montagne S.
Its work Mechanismus der Gebirgsbildung , 1878, becomes traditional and inspires Charles Lapworth in his research on the Highlands. Heim also devotes to the study of the glacial phenomena in the alpine areas. The Geological Society off London decrees the to him Médaille Wollaston in 1904.
