Albert Decourtray

The cardinal Albert Decourtray , born the April 9th 1923 with Wattignies, deceased the September 16th 1994, is a dignitary of the Roman Catholic church and academician French.

He celebrates his first mass in July 1947 with Seclin (Northern), where he had come to live with his family in 1938.

Its currency was “ In simplicitate ” (In simplicity). It was successively priest Diocèse of Lille, professor, auxiliary bishop of Dijon, bishop of Dijon of 1974 with 1981, Archevêque of Lyon and primacy of Gaules of 1981 with 1994, president of the French Episcopal conference of 1987 with 1990 and member of the pontifical councils for the interreligieux dialog and with the unbelievers.

French Academy

The Decourtray cardinal was elected with the French Academy, on July 1st 1993, with the armchair 4, succeeding the professor Hamburger. Its official reception took place on March 10th 1994. After its disappearance, it was replaced, on June 15th 1995, by the cardinal Lustiger.
