Ovide , in Latin Publius Ovidius Naso (born the March 20th 43 av. J. - C. with Sulmona, in the south of the Italy - died in 17 a. J. - C., in exile with Volumes, current the Constanţa , in Romania), is a Latin Poète which lived at the period of the birth of the Roman Empire. It is born one year after the assassination from Jules César, is adolescent when Auguste seizes the capacity to transform with the complicity of the Sénat the République worsens about it, and dies three years after the first emperor.
Life
Resulting from a family of knights, Ovide studies the Rhétorique with Rome. Forsaking very early the careers legal and administrative, he knows the celebrity thanks to his collections of poems, the Loves , Héroïdes , Art to like and the Remèdes for the love . At the eighteen years age, his/her father allows him to go to travel in Greece, voyage which will mark it and feed its works ( Pontiques , the Metamorphoses ). After the forty years age, it gives up erotic poetry to write the Metamorphoses , poem of 12 000 Hexameters dactylic divided into fifteen books and taking again the accounts of the Greek Mythology and Roman.
By the delicacy of its style and the acuity of its observations, Ovide reached with universal, in particular in Art to like . Its texts are of an astonishing modernity, beyond the historical context which is clean for them.
The November 19th of the year 8 a. J. - C., Ovide is exiled on the edges of the Euxine Sea, with Tomes (current Constanţa in Romania), by decision of Auguste, for reasons which are unknown for us. The official pretext would seem to be the immorality of Art to like . Various assumptions were put forth on the causes of this relegation, like the fact that an love affair between the girl of Auguste - Julie - and the poet would have displeased with the emperor. The last in date is that Ovide would have been punished to have wanted to reveal the implication of the emperor in the murder of Virgile. It arrived at Tomes the May 9th of the year 9 a. J. - C. and it is in this place moved away, that it will spend the last years of its life. It wrote there the ultimate ones towards, Sad the and Pontiques , which contain confidences full with melancholy where are expressed its nostalgia, its pain and its distress of exiled. Ovide in vain tries to return to Rome. He writes a treaty of fishing and a lampoon entitled Ibis .
After her death, its family could not repatriate her body.
Ovide was as of its beginnings a follower of the Cacozelia latens , this technique of writing at double bottom practiced by Virgile, Horace, Properce and Tibulle in particular, and which aims at fighting the Authoritarian regime, set up by Auguste. Studied with this light, its works take a very new dimension. It should be added that Auguste did not deprive itself, as a backfire, to add some worms of its composition to the Fastes and the Métamorphoses .
