Albert Bessis , born in January 1885 with Carthage and deceased the September 25th 1972 with Tunis, is a politician Tunisia N.
After a passage to the Carnot College of Tunis, it follows studies of Droit to Paris. A Doctorate out of pockets, it returns to Tunis in 1913. It reaches the Tunisian section of the Large Council in 1934 and sits there until its abolition in 1952. Sought by the German at the beginning of the occupation, in November 1942, and passed from clandestinity on the council of its son Aldo, member of the direction of the Tunisian Communist party, Bessis escapes from accuracy from an arrest and hides to the entry of the troops allied in Tunis in May 1943.
Of Jewish confession, Bessis consequently occupies an important political place at the sides of the personalities most representative of the Moslem Bourgeoisie . It signs in October 1944 the first Manifeste claiming internal autonomy of Tunisia. In December 1945, it is re-elected with the Large Council for a 6 years legislature. Barristers president about lawyers, acting as advising private Rolls Bey, it has to sit at the commission of the 40 (convened the 1952 to examine a plan of reforms presented by the Résident general of France in Tunisia). After the declaration of Pierre Mendès France (July 31st 1954) granting internal autonomy to Tunisia, it takes part as expert with the delegation charged to discuss in Paris with the statute autonomy. It enters then the second government of Tahar Ben Ammar, formed the September 18th 1955, after the signature of conventions of autonomy the June 3rd.
The April 9th 1956, a few days after the proclamation of independence, the government Ben Ammar is replaced by a government chaired by Habib Bourguiba. Another Jewish minister, Andre Barouch, member of the Néo-Destour, replaces Bessis with the ministry for the habitat and town planning. He is then elected with the National Assembly and chairs it as an oldest member but is replaced at once by Ahmed Ben Salah. There remains appointed until in 1969 where, in its request, he is not reproduced any more on the list of the party.
