Albert Bernet

Called “Albert of Séméac, said Freedom”, companion mason stone but also architect, sculptor, painter of watercolours, writer, Félibre occitan, freemason, politician, teacher, Albert Bernet , born with the “End-of-Bridge”, was an original character and sometimes discussed.

Biography

Wire of a native carpenter of Pouyastruc, he studied at the school of the Art schools of Bordeaux and that of Decorative Arts, obtained its diploma for the occupation of architect with Tarbes, took part in the public life of Séméac by forming part during 4 years of the Municipal council, before beginning, in 1912, a career of architect in Paris.

In parallel, it was initiated with the Franc-Maçonnerie, became Compagnon mason Etranger stone of the Duty of Freedom, in 1923, in Paris.

It reached the top of the maconnic hierarchy, became an architect having well-established, taught the History of Work to the College of Social sciences.

Married in 1935 with Marie Houdré, doctor and militant feminist, it engaged politically in 1936. Its action during the years of Occupation is discussed.

Returned with the country at the end of the Fifties, it establishes the plans of some houses, painted a series of watercolours on the topic of the residences of celebrities in Bigorre (of which Voivenel and Foch), works bequeathed to the Massey museum by his sisters. Other watercolours and sculptures will be given to private individuals or the Château of Mauvezin.

Félibre bigourdan, it defended the Langue of oc, wrote tales and poems published in the regional literary reviews.

Died in its residence in 1962, it is buried with the cemetery of Séméac.
