Albatross with yellow nozzle
The Albatros with yellow nozzle ( Thalassarche chlororhynchos ) is one of the great species of the family of the Diomedeidae.
Description
It is a very large white and brown bird with the long surmounted black nozzle of yellow. The color of the nozzle makes it possible to differentiate it from the other species of albatross.In a detailed way, its head, its neck, its belly, the bottom of the back and thecaudal ones are white as well as the lower face of the wings bordered of black. The back, the top of the wings and the tail are brown black. Its nozzle is black but presents on the upper part a yellow longitudinal band transfering to orange at its end. The eyes are black and the legs pale blue gray.
Its average weight is of 10 kg for the males and 8 kg for the females (only mark of sexual Dimorphisme), its average scale from 2 to 2,10 m and its length from 74 to 86 cm.
Distribution and populations
He attends the south of the oceans Atlantique, Indien and Pacifique, as well as the Antarctic Ocean.It niche mainly (80% of the world population) on the island of Amsterdam in the Indian Ocean.
Behavior
Like all the albatross, it is an exceptional sailing ship because of its very long wings.Posed on water in calm weather, it makes use of powerful beats of legs to take its take-off.
Food
The Albatross with yellow nozzle nourishes mainly cephalopods but also of fish and shellfish.
