Albéric Magnard

Lucien Denis Gabriel Albéric Magnard , born with Paris the June 9th 1865 and died in Baron the September 3rd 1914, is a Compositeur French.

Biography

Wire of an editor association of the Barber, Albéric Magnard lost his/her mother at the 4 years age. It made studies of right before entering to the Conservatoire of Paris towards 1886, where he became the pupil of Dubois and Massenet. Later, it took lessons with Vincent d' Indy and learned the counterpoint with the Schola Cantorum, founded with Paris in 1894 by Bordes, Guilmant and of Indy.

It composed four Symphonie S - with the Orchestration rich, worthy of César Franck, of which majestic the Symphonie n°4 (1912) - a Funeral chant for Orchestre (1895), very moving, dedicated to the memory of his father, a Sonate for Violon and Piano, a sonata for Violoncelle, a Trio with piano, a String quartet, a Quintette for winds and piano as well as lyric works ( Bérénice, Yolande ). He wrote, moreover, some musical chronicles in the newspaper Le Figaro. Its work comprises only 21 opus.

In 1914, it lost the life at 49 years, in its manor with Baron (Oise) while resisting against a German attack, which destroyed the manuscript of Guercœur , its second opera like that of Yolande . Guy Ropartz, an old friend, reconstituted thereafter the partition of Guercœur which was represented for the first time in 1931.

Its life was marked by a certain number of engagements: it dedicated its fourth symphony to a feminist organization and resigned of the army as a supporter of Dreyfus.
