Alatri

Alatri is a Italian city of approximately: 28000 inhabitants located in the Province of Frosinone in the area of the Latium.

Geography

The downtown area is built on a hill. The higher point of the city is at 502m altitude.

Etymology

The current name of the city comes from the Roman name Aletrium , which, itself found its origin in a preexistent form.

Economy

Alatri is one of the principal tourist sites of southernmost, famous Latium to be a great center of the Ciociaria.

History

Alatri is known in antiquity under the Latin name of Aletrium , quoted of the people hernic, combined of Rome starting from 486 av. J.C.

In 306 av. J.C, this city refused will join the other hernic cities to declare the war against Rome. After the defeat of Herniques, Rome rewarded fidelity for Aletrium by a preferential treatment: statute of Municipe with the right to elect its magistrates, agreement with the inhabitants of the Roman Citizenship and the right of legal marriage with the Romans, enviable privileges at that time.
