Alathée
Alathée (? - 387) was a general Ostrogoth.
Biography
It fought the Huns in 376 at the sides of the Visigoths and directed various forwardings against the Roman Empire of the East from 376 to 387. In 377, it overcame the Roman army with Salices, combined to the noble Visigoths Fritigern and Alavius. It is also known for its participation in the Bataille of Turkey-red cotton, into 378, during which it ordered most of the barbarian cavalry at the sides of Saphrax (Alathée and Saphrax were Co-regents of the Ostrogoths since the king Withimer had died while fighting against Huns into 376). The cavalry, mainly made up of refugees ostrogoths who had refused to serve Huns, played a decisive part in the destruction of the left side of the Roman cavalry during the battle, then in the surrounding of the heavy infantry ordered by the generals Trajan and Victor, surrounding which gave the final victory to the barbarians.After Turkey-red cotton, it put at bag many towns of Thrace and north of Greece until it is overcome by the Roman general Promotus, with the service of Théodose Ier Large the. Following this defeat, it is established with the mouth of the Danube with its men, until it must again face Promotus into 387, and perishes during the battle.
