Alata

Alata is a common French, located in the department of the Corse-du-Sud and the Corsica area .

Geography

Alata is a common Frenchwoman of Corse-du-Sud located at 7 km of Ajaccio (either ten minutes in the car) and at an altitude of 400 m for the village even of Alata. Alata has an access to the sea by the gulf of Washed located in the gulf of Sagone. The geographical limits of the commune lie between Assembles Gozzi, the gulf of Washed, Punta - Pozzo di Borgo, Ajaccio, Villanova, Appietto and Afa (common bordering), with its 3250 hectares of large maquis and forests of holm oaks.

Its inhabitants is called Alatais (Alataises).

History

The first village is established near the turns of Monticchi, posts defense and of watchtower today destroyed, but always visible with the top of the current village. Cradle of the Pozzo-di-Borgo family since the 16th century.

Castle of the punta

Located at 600 m of altitude, a view from above offers on Ajaccio, going to the entry of the gulf of Oporto, on the neighbouring mountains like on the Monte Cinto, more the high mountain Corsican (2706 m).

Reconstitution of one of the houses of the palate of tilery in Paris which burned in 1871. When in 1882 it was decided to destroy the Palate completely, Jerome Pozzo di Borgo, large enemy of Napoleon 1st, acquired of most of the stones in order to build a castle on the family field located on the heights of Ajaccio in order to show his supremacy.

The reconstitution of the castle take place of 1886 to 1894. Unfortunately the castle was flaring on August 7th, 1978 by a fire of maquis, was propagated with the roof, involving a serious process of degradation. In 1991 the General advice of Corsica of the South decided the acquisition of the Castle of Punta and his field of 40 hectares near the family Pozzo di Borgo.

The repair of the roof was carried out in 1996, thus putting the castle safe from a continuation of degradations due to the rain. But the castle be not saved yet completely.

Gulf of washed

Superb gulf with a vacation village located on the commune of Alata. where in 1985, three Roman gold coins brought back of a fishing to the sea urchins by three friends… It is the starting point of a fabulous hunting for the treasure.
