Castle-Chinon (City) , or often simply Castle-Chinon , is a common French, located in the department of the Nievre and the area Burgundy.

Curiously, the official C-W communication, used by INSEE (geographical Code official and other nomenclatures), the ministry for the Interior, IGN, is (without space), and the same for the canton and the district of which it is the place chief, or for the common neighbor of. This use however is respected little apart from the cases mentioned. In everyday usage, to speak about commune of (or about the canton or district it is the chief town), one generally employs name Castle-Chinon .

One writes also sometimes Castle-Chinon-City and Castle-Chinon-Countryside .

Geography

The city occupies a hill which overhangs left bank of the Yonne. This large borough is regarded as the capital of the Haut-Morvan.

History

The history of Castle-Chinon is very old, since it goes up at the time prehistoric. Roman city and convergence point of several roads it was in turn châtellenie, seigniory then county. It owes its name with its feudal castle, now disappeared. After the Révolution it was divided into two common Castle-Chinon-City and Castle-Chinon-Countryside.
