Alard III of Castle-Gontier
Alard III of Castle-Gontier , lord of Castle-Gontier.
Biography
Alard III, wire of Alard II of Castle-Gontier, had become oldest son by the death of a brother of the same name, and by that of Renaud who disappears in 1145, the same year as his/her father. One finds it quoted with his Renaud son for a gift with Nyoiseau (1148); like witness of the transfer of the ground of the Rock with Joulain de Tours by Robert, abbot of Saint-Aubin (1149 - 1150). The abbot Michel of Roë which was of its family, deceased person familia erat , calls some with him in a lawsuit (1150 - 1152); with his Geoffroy brother, it makes receive by the same abbot of Roë, with the number of the canons, Geoffroy, wire of Herve de Linières, Sénéchal of Castle-Gontier. Two charters of the Genéteil, one of Renaud, his son, of 1162 with 1178, the other of Renaud, his grandson, of 1190, recall its name.According to the Gallia Christiana , it gave said to the Abbaye of Bellebranche as of the year of its foundation (1152), and it is generally believed that it was buried there.
Alard would thus have died in 1152 and its liberalities could be testamentary. Its Obit in Saint-Maurice of Angers is noted with the August 5th. He had married Mélissende, whose obit with the Nécrologe of Saint-Maurice is registered at August 15th, and who gave him at least three wire and a girl:
- Renaud, which succeeded to him;
- Alard, which is quoted only once of 1162 with 1178. Perhaps it followed its elder to Jerusalem where he would have died; it is in the charter where it is question of this departure that Alard appears;
- Barthelemy or Berthelot seems to have had a rather considerable role. Not only it is pilot acts of his brother or other characters of 1151 with 1170, and later with Raoul de Beaumont; but the June 23rd 1165 (?) he is judge of a lawsuit between Marmoutier and Hamelin d' Anthenaise about the right of press to Bouère; witness of a concession of Robert III of Sanded with Saint-Aubin, after 1165; witness still of an act of Saint-Aubin concerning the Forest of Malépinay (1165 - 1184);
- Marguerite of Castle-Gontier, nun in Ronceray in 1180, is undoubtedly girl of Alard III.
