Alan Wilson Watts (January 6th 1915 - November 16th 1973) is one of the fathers of the Contre-culture in America. Philosopher, writer, lecturer and expert in compared religion, he is the author of twenty-five books and many articles treating of subjects like the individual identity, the true nature of the things, the conscience and the research of happiness. In its works, it is based on the scientific knowledge and the teaching of the religions and philosophies of the East and Occident (zen Buddhism, taoism, Christianity, hindouism). In addition, it was interested by the new tendencies appearing in Occident in its time, and was made the apostle of a certain change of mentalities as for the company, nature, the lifestyles and esthetics. Alan Watts was a famous autodidact and it is its interpretation of Asian philosophies which made it popular.
It appears one of the characters of the " celestial Tramps " of Kerouac.
Somebody who asked him why it was Végétarien, Alan Watts answered: “Because the cows shout more extremely than carrots. ”
