Alain de Benoist

Biography

After secondary studies with the Louis-the-Large College, he becomes political journalist by writing some articles under the pseudonym of “Cédric de Gentissard” for French Lectures . In 1961, it becomes acquainted with François d' Orcival and adheres to the Fédération of the nationalist students (FEN). In 1962, it deals with the secretariat of the university Cahiers , the review of the FEN, in which it publishes his first “philosophical” papers. The same year, it comes into contact with Dominique Venner and the founder group of Europe-Action , of which it is not long in becoming one of the principal collaborators.

In its first books, - Salan in front of the opinion and courage is their fatherland , published respectively in 1963 and 1965, the second in collaboration with François d' Orcival -, it takes the defense of the French Algérie and OAS before turning to the political Philosophie, making him discover a conceptual universe of which the “militants Nationaliste S did not suspect the existence, and of which they would probably not have seen the possible ideological exploitations”.

Among the founders of the Grouping of research and studies for European civilization (GREECE), - main movement of the current which the media baptized “Nouvelle Right-hand side” -, it, inter alia, collaborated in the reviews Éléments , Nouvelle School , Krisis (re-examined which it founds in 1988 and being defined as “left , of right, bottom of the things and medium of the world”, this one practitioner indeed the opening towards several currents of ideas and thinkers external with the néo-droitier medium - as Jean Baudrillard, Governed Debray, Jean-François Kahn or Michel Jobert -, even engaged with the Extreme left, such Bernard Langlois and Ignacio Ramonet) like with the Barber Magazine , which it had to leave at the beginning of the Années 1980. Of 1970 with 1982, it also works with the Spectacle of the World , and episodically since the Années 2000 collaborates again in it. Alain de Benoist also made known himself by taking part in the emission the Panorama on France Culture of 1980 to 1992. Currently, it directs the collection “Traditional of the political thought” of the editions of the Age of Man.

It is the publication then crowning by the French Academy of Vu of right-hand side (1977), bulky test being defined as “critical Anthology of the contemporary ideas”, which reveals Alain de Benoist with the cultivated general public. In this book, as opposed to what lets think the title, it expresses already the will to exceed cleavage left-right-hand side: “For the time being, the ideas that this work defends are with right; they are not necessarily of right. I can even imagine situations very well where they could be with left. In fact the ideas would have changed, but the political scene which would have evolved/moved. ”

In 1986, the leader of the “New Right-hand side” publishes Europe, Tiers-monde, even combat (whose subtitle was “to decolonize until the end! ”), work which, taking the opposite course to the traditional positions of the extreme right-hand side, preaches the support for the fights for the autonomy of the people of the Tiers-monde and alliance with this one against the Impérialisme. A vision already germinates about it in the former writings of the author and who will remain his.

If Alain de Benoist does not hide to have been in his youth militant of Extrême right-hand side, it is for a long time denied all leaning for the Racisme and the Totalitarisme, in spite of the charges of which it is the object.

Endeavouring to adopt a sociological point of view, it crosses several references in its writings and thus invites in their support as well Karl Marx as Martin Heidegger or Friedrich Nietzsche. Its work touches various topics such as the Paganisme, the Immigration, races and identities, the Anti-américanisme, the European construction, the fight against the Néolibéralisme, the ecology, the political Philosophie, the Histoire, etc
