Alain Savary

Alain Savary , born the April 25th 1918 with Algiers and deceased the February 17th 1988 with Paris, was a politician French, member of the Socialist party, and old a Minister for Education (1981 - 1984), creator of ZEP (priority zones of education).

Resisting since 1940

In June 1940, refusing the defeat, it rejoins the free France. In December 1941, at the time of the rallying of Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon in which it takes part, the admiral Emile Muselier entrusts to Alain Savary the responsibility of manage this territory. There remains governor of Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon until January 1943.

As from April 1944, Alain Savary takes part in the countryside of Italy, where it is distinguished. In August 1944, it orders the 2nd squadron of the 1st regiment of marine fusiliers of the 1 {{free Re}} French division which unloads in Provence and takes an active part, under the direction of its commander, with the combat of release of Crau and Toulon. The September 12th, the junction is made, with the Nod-on-Seine, close to Châtillon, between a group of the Savary squadron and the spahis of the 2 {{E}} dB of the general Leclerc.

As from October 1944, it has to sit at the provisional Consultative Assembly to represent there the Compagnons of the Release.

Political life

In 1946, it is named General secretary of the Commission of the German and Austrian Businesses.

Of 1948 with 1951, it is Conseiller appointed French Union then Saint-Pierre-and-Miquelon until in 1958, date on which he becomes Assistant general secretary of SFIO. From February 1st to November 3rd, 1956, he is Secretary of State in charge of the Moroccan and Tunisian Businesses in the Gouvernement Guy Mollet at the time of the independence of these two countries (March 1956). He resigns to protest against the arrest of Ben Bella in Algiers.

He leaves the SFIO in 1958 because of the rallying of Guy Mollet to the new mode. He is then among the founders of PSA (autonomous Socialist party) before belonging to the leaders of PSU (unified Socialist party). Wishing to undertake the revival and the regrouping of the left, it creates Convention Socialism and democracy then the UCRG (Union of the clubs for the revival of the left).

In July 1969 with the Congress of Issy-les-Moulineaux, Savary was the founder and First secretary of the Socialist party which adopted the strategy of the “Union of the left”. It will be reversed by François Mitterrand at the time of the congress of Epinay-sur-Seine (June 1971).

He is then elected Député of the Haute-Garonne of 1973 with 1981 and chair District council the Midday-Pyrenees of 1974 1981.

In 1981, it becomes Ministre for State education in the government of Pierre Mauroy. It made there vote a law of reform of the higher education to which its name remains attached. It is also charged to unify secondary education and to put an end to the distinction between the private school (known as private school) - from which it is paradoxically resulting - and public school. In its attempt, it starts a true tidal wave of protests which leads to the demonstration of more than one million people in the streets of Paris in June 1984 in the name of the defense of the private school (for the others in the name of the Laïcité). Finally, it will give its resignation of the government a few hours before the advertisement of the complete resignation of the government Mauroy in July 1984.
