Alain Robbe-Grillet

Alain Robbe-Grillet , born on August 18th, 1922 with Brest in the Finistere, is a novelist and scenario writer French. He was elected with the French Academy on March 25th, 2004. His wife is the novelist Catherine Robbe-Grillet.

Biography

Alain Robbe-Grillet is graduate agricultural engineer of the agronomic National institute in Paris. Then he is operations manager with the National institute of the statistics in Paris (1945-48), engineer at the Institute of the fruits and citrus fruits colonial, in Morocco, in French Guinea, in Martinique and the Guadeloupe (1949-51).

He devotes himself then to the writing and becomes one of the theorists and representatives of the Nouveau Novel. Robbe-Grillet illustrates with its first large novel the Gums , which appears in 1953. He also worked for the cinema, in particular on the scenario of last Year with Marienbad , carried out by Alain Resnais in 1961.

Of 1972 with 1997, Alain Robbe-Grillet taught in the United States, the Université of New York (NYU) and in Washington University of Saint-Louis (Missouri).
