Alain Madelin is a Politician French, born the March 26th 1946 with Paris (12 {{E}} district).
Biography
Wire of Gaetan, semi-skilled worker at Renault and in Aline Madelin, cleaning lady, it passes his childhood to Belleville, in Paris.
He is lawyer at the bar of Paris, divorced, and has three children (Gaëlle, Armelle and Brian-Stefan).
Youth
Shocked by the Agreements of Evian, it engages as of its 16 years in the cause Nationaliste and becomes familiar of the brawls against the militants of Extreme left. In 1963, it belongs to the Fédération of the nationalist students (FEN, extreme right), where it is responsible for the militant action. It will be wounded at the entry of the Lycée Turgot in a brawl between communist high-school pupils and members of the FEN. In 1964, whereas he studies the right to Assas, he is one of the founders of the movement Occident, movement student of Extrême right-hand side wishing the suppression of the vote for all, with Gerard Longuet and Patrick Devedjian. Reconsidering this time, he states to be animated by one:“ Anticommunism militant, extreme and impassioned, which accompanied a good part of my life by student. And as at this time, France of the anticommunism was marginalized, us were systematically confined with the extreme right-hand side. Opposite, they were for Mao and Pol Pot, for the red Guards and the Khmer Rouge. I do not regret not having chosen this camp. ”
According to a report/ratio of the police headquarter of Paris gone back to August 1968, Alain Madelin “ would have taken part in the preparation of a holdup ”.
The June 2nd 1964, it belongs to the members of Occident who attack the Cinéma “Savoy”. Its residence is searched by the police force. In 1965, he is delegated to youth in the support group with Jean-Louis Tixier-Vignancourt in Xe district of Paris. Member of the commando who violently attacks the university Committee for Vietnam, in January 1967, his residence is again Perquisition born.
The militants of Occident face the demonstrators of May 68; in October, the movement is dissolved.
Political career
To the autumn 1968, Alain Madelin turns over to the Faculty of Law of Assas, and adheres to the Républicains independent of Valery Giscard d'Estaing, to which turn of many line militants extreme eager to be centred politically. It obtains a license of right. The lawyer lends oath in 1971, gradually cutting the bridges with his political circle of origin. He works in various institutes and employers' organizations, in particular with Georges Albertini.He is publication director of the newspaper antisocialist Spécial Suburbs at the time of the presidential campaign of 1974. He integrates the staff of Valery Giscard d'Estaing, which is elected president in 1974. He preserves his place for the election of 1981.
In 1978, Alain Madelin is elected appointed Fourth district of Ille-et-Vilaine and becomes vice-president of the District council of Brittany; it creates sensation while arriving without Cravate in the hemicycle. For the weekly magazine of extreme-right-hand side Minute , Alain Madelin, Gerard Longuet and Hubert Bassot, are the new elected officials “of extreme right-hand side by interposed majority”.
When the right gains the legislative elections in 1986 and that the First cohabitation begins, Jacques Chirac appoints it Minister of Industry, Post and Télécommunications and for Tourism. The scenario repeats when the line gains the legislative elections in 1993 and that Edouard Balladur, Prime Minister for the Second cohabitation, names Alain Madelin Minister for the Companies and Economic development.
Its passage leaves two notable traces: on the one hand the contracts of retirement says “Madelin”, making it possible to the non wage-earning persons to constitute a retirement by capitalization; in addition a simplification of the steps of creation of company, with the development of the unipersonal statute of company (EURL and EARL).
In 1995, Alain Madelin is elected mayor of Redon. He does not request a second mandate in 2001.
When the UDF lines up behind Edouard Balladur at the time of the presidential election of 1995, it chooses to support Jacques Chirac. Elected official, this last names it Minister for the Economy and Finances. As of its taking up the duties, he recommends a reform of the retirements by the alignment of the public on the private one by removing the overdrawn special diets, but its positions are considered to be too liberal, he is constrained with the resignation at the end of three months. He is replaced by Jean Arthuis.
With the victory of the left in 1997, it takes the head of the Republican party. At the summer 1997, it re-elects this party Liberal Démocratie .
In March 1998, the refusal of Alain Madelin to condemn the elected presidents of area, like Charles Million and Jacques Blanc, with the voices of the National front causes the rupture between Liberal Démocratie and its head office, UDF.
It is presented to the presidential election of 2002, where it obtains 3,91% of the votes cast. It then joined with its party the UMP in 2002. Within UMP, it incarnates the liberal doctrines while being member of the current “the reformers”. In 2003, he decides in favor of the military intervention in Iraq to reverse the mode of Saddam Hussein. In 2006, very critical towards the methods of the Prime Minister to make pass CPE (refusal of compromise with managements and labor, use of the article 49-3 of the Constitution), there invites nevertheless the government to remain firm on its positions, explaining why the Contract first recruiting is not made against the young people but for the young people.
The November 15th 2006, it announces that it will not represent with legislative in 2007. It was put in withdrawal of the political life. One can see there a mark of his loss of influence in the Country of Redon; elected as of the first turn with more than 58% of the votes in 1993, it had passed only with 725 votes in advance on the socialist candidate in 2002. In fact, its successor elected in 2007 is Jean-Rene Marsac (PS).
February 4th, 2007, it gives its support for the new party Liberal Alternative at the time of the congress of this party to Paris.

Disciplinary action
- 02/02/1984 Infringement : “Insults or threat towards the President of the French Republic” (Article 73 of the Payment of the National Assembly) Sorrow : “Simple Censure” (deprivation for one month of the M.P.'s salary). Context: François d' Aubert, Alain Madelin and Jacques Toubon had blamed the honor of President Mitterrand, Grand Master about the Legion of honor, by recalling that this one had directed, during a few months, a newspaper held by Eugene Schueller. (cf French constitutional Chronicle (review Capacities), n°30, p. 159). The historian Henry Rousso writes in connection with this incident: “The recall of these facts - without particular significance with regard to Mitterrand (even Catherine Nay is appropriate about it implicitly) - is a constant of the extreme right-hand side and Alain Madelin, former leader of Occident, undoubtedly did not forget his reflexes of youth. ” ( the Syndrome of Vichy , ED. threshold, “Points” - history, 1990, p. 365).
