Alain Mabanckou

Alain Mabanckou is a Congolese writer born with Point-Black (République of Congo) in 1966.

Biography

Alain Mabanckou was born with the Congo-Brazzaville in 1966. He passes his childhood in the Point-Black coastal town of where he obtains a baccalaureat in Letters and Philosophy with the Karl-Marx College. He directs himself then towards the right, his mother wishing that he become magistrate or lawyer. After a first cycle of private law at the Marien-Ngouabi University with Brazzaville, it obtains a grant and flies away for the France at the 22 years age, with already some manuscripts in its business, of the collections of poems for the majority, which it will start to publish three years later.

After a DEA of right to the University of Paris-Dauphine, he works ten years in the group Suez - Lyonnaise of Water, but is devoted more and more to the writing with the publication in 1998 of its first novel Blue-White-Red which is worth the to him Literary Grand Prix of the Black Africa . From this date, it will not cease publishing with regularity, as well prose as of poetry. It is especially the novel which reveals it with the general public, with in particular Verre broken , unanimously greeted by the press, the critic and the readers; then Memories of Porcupine which is worth to him in 2006 one of highest distinctions of the French letters, with the Goncourt, the Prix Renaudot. The two novels are appeared with the Editions of the Threshold, respectively in 2005 and 2006.

Writer in residence in 2002, it taught the French-speaking literature with Ann Arbor during three years before being noticed by the the University of California to Los Angeles (UCLA) which invites it initially as Visiting Professor in 2006 then names it Full professor ( Full Professor ) of French-speaking literature in 2007.

He lives today with Santa Monica, in California.

Its works are translated in about fifteen languages of which the English, the American , the Hebrew , the Korean , the Spanish , the Catalan and the Italian . Verre broken was the subject of several theatrical adaptations.

In 2007, the poetic writings of Alain Mabanckou reappear, at Point-Threshold, under the title of As long as the trees will be enracineront in the ground , as well as the book which it devotes to the writer James Baldwin, Lettre in Jimmy (Fayard), at the time of the twentieth birthday of died of the American writer.
