Alain Ier de Rohan

Alain Ier de Rohan , known as the Black , (born in 1084 - deceased in 1147), is the 1st Viscount of Rohan, Viscount of Castelnoec, third wire of Eudon Ier de Porhoët, Viscount of Porhoët, and Emma of Leon (girl of Guyomarch II, Viscount of Leon).

He receives in heritage, towards 1116, all the Western part of Porhoët, then little inhabited. He has a castle with Castennec and another builds some on the edges of the Oust, and the name of Rohan gives him. It takes then the name of Alain Ier de Rohan and bequeaths this name to its descendants.

In 1128, Alain de Rohan makes of its castle its main home. After having founded the priory of Coarde with Castennec, in favor of the monks of Redon, it founds a priory, in favor of the Abbaye of Marmoutier, near the castle of Rohan: the year of the Incarnation of the Lord 1128, under the reign of Louis, Conan being count de Bretagne, me Alain, Viscount, I gave and gives to Saint Martin's day and with the monks of the monastery located close to the castle of Josselin, all the borough located in front of the door of my new castle called Rohan, and the ground extending to midday to the river Oust in the condition of establishing a church and a cemetery there… more one mill, half of a villa, said them and right parish of Crédin…. with responsibility of request for me and my late.
