Alain Corbin is a Historien French born in 1936, specialist in the 19th century in France.
Work
Professor at the university Paris I - Pantheon-Sorbonne, it worked on the social history and the history of the representations. One says of him that he is “the historian of sensitive”, so much he marked his discipline by his innovative approach on the historicity of the directions and the sensitivities.One owes him several works, of which Le Monde found of Louis-François Pinagot, on the traces of an unknown, 1798-1876 (1998), biography of a randomly selected unknown sabot-maker in the files of the Orne. This work falls under the concept of the Microhistoire.
In addition, he worked on the male desire of Prostitution ( Girls of wedding , 1978), the Odorat and the imaginary social one ( Miasma and the Jonquil , 1982), the man and his report/ratio with the Rivage ( the Territory of the vacuum , 1990), the sound landscape in the French campaigns of the 19th century ( Bells of the ground , 1994) and the creation of the Vacances ( the Advent of the leisures , 1996). He also published a book of discussions with Gilles Heuré ( Historien of sensitive the , 2000). In 2005, its students paid homage in a collective book to him which gives an account of its route historiographic: Demartini asEmmanuelle and Dominique Kalifa (to dir.), Imaginary and sensitivities to the 19th century: studies for Alain Corbin , Paris, Créaphis, 2006.
