Style
Having begun on low electric conventional, Alain Charon stated to have lived a true traumatism at the time of his discovery of the work of Jaco Pastorius. Of fear of a too direct influence, he then seeks to develop his own style. This research initially leads it to concentrate on the Contrebasse, instrument which enables him to develop a very great technicality in a repertory centered on the kind Be-bop. In parallel, and following in that the stylistic dynamics of UZEB, it focuses its electric basic play on virtuosity and technology, playing on the low ones with 6 cords, as well freighted as Fretless. The violin maker Georges Furlanetto developed a basic model fretless semi-acoustics which bears the name of Alain Charon.
On low hooped, it develops a particular approach of the Slap, giving to this technique play true melody contents, and either only rhythmic. But they is perhaps on low fretless that its influence is most palpable today on the scene contemporary jazz-fusion.
Emphasized by its own compositions, its play reveals at the same time a great sobriety of effects and a Lyrisme pronounced, the accuracy being never taken at fault. These elements confer to him an immediately recognizable sound by the amateurs of jazz-fusion.
In XXIe century, he is regarded as one of the largest current bass players.
